- TRX Version 1.1 (Unregistered) Notes
-
- Installation
- To install TRX under Windows 3.1 or 95 run the SETUP.EXE program found among
- the unzipped files from TRX11.zip. SETUP will install the DOS Protected Mode
- version of the program. You may also install this program under DOS by
- running the INSTALL.EXE program in the DOS environment. This program will
- give you the option to install either the DOS Protected Mode program or the
- Real Mode version.
-
- Features
- TRX is a portfolio management and investment tracking program designed for
- the small investor. It allows you to manage multiple investment and cash
- accounts and many different assets. Some of the features of this program are:
-
- Flexibility to make tax basis adjustments for spinoffs, gifts, etc.
- All popular tax basis methods are supported
- Comprehensive performance summaries include after-tax return
- See comprehensive performance summaries of accounts and individual assets
- Full multi-disk backup support
- Imports and exports data in standard formats
- Provides portfolio income and earnings estimates, along with overall PE ratios
- Provides comprehensive taxable income summary
- Search utility allows you to create lists of transactions matching specified critieria
- Supports asset allocation through two asset classifications
- Comprehensive, context-sensitive online help system
- Graphs asset prices and portfolio values
-
- Hardware Requirements
- TRX requires a PC running DOS 4.0 or higher or MS Windows 3.1 or higher with
- a VGA or better graphics adaptor. A mouse is helpful.
-
- How to Start the Program
- Start the program by double clicking on the TRX icon. Once the program has
- started, you can get help on using the program by clicking the Hints menu
- item. The program also has context-sensitive help that displays help on the
- topic you are using. If you want help on a particular menu command, just
- highlight the command and press the F1 key or click the Help item at the
- bottom of the screen.
-
- Using the Sample Data
- The program comes with an extensive set of sample data which will be installed
- automatically when you install the program. You can test the program by using
- the sample data. When you want to add your own data, you can delete the
- sample data. If you wish to keep the sample data, then run the backup
- command (found under the File menu item) to save the sample data on a floppy
- disk before you delete it. When you delete the sample data, delete the
- accounts first. This is because, if you delete the assets first, you will not
- be able to delete the assets owned by accounts. Once the accounts have been
- deleted, the assets may be deleted.
-
- Deinstalling the program
- The Windows installation of the program comes with an UNINSTALL program. This
- will delete all of the files associated with the program, INCLUDING ANY DATA
- FILES associated with the program, and will then delete the directory in
- which the program is located. The only program left will be the uninstall
- program itself, TRXDPMIU.EXE, which resides in the Windows directory. You
- will have to erase this file manually.
-
- The DOS Real Mode version of the program does not come with an uninstall
- program, so you must erase the files in the directory manually.
-
- Upcoming Versions
- TRX v2.0 for Windows is under development and expected to be available in
- late 1997. This program will have all of the functionality of TRX v1.1 and
- more, including ability to print graphs, drag-and-drop capabilities for
- values in edit controls and the calculator and calendar, ability to enter
- and save data on commissions and fees for transactions, and much more.
- For current TRX users, the new version will look very much the same and have
- many of the same commands.
